PBC Blog for January 21, 2010
Last night at youth group we had 33 people in attendance. This has become about our average attendance on Wednesday nights at PBC youth. We even had a new person come to the youth group for the first time, which is very exciting! I encourage all of you to try to bring a new friend with you every week.
PBC is reading through the Bible in one year and I encourage all of our youth to read through the one year Bible as well. In our reading from the past week we read the first part of the story of Joseph found in Genesis 37-41. Remember the four lessons we learned from the first part of Joseph's life. These four lessons are:
1. We should not be jealous of what other people have because jealously can lead people to do extreme things. Instead of being jealous we should be content with what we have.
2. Even when bad things happen to us God still loves us and God is still there with us!
3. Run (literally) from temptation if you have to!! Or flee from sexual immorality, Joseph ran away from Potiphar's wife because of the temptation he faced. I Corinthians 6:18 tells us to flee from sexual immorality, which is also a lesson we learn from the life of Joseph.
4. Trust God and stay humble. It could have been very easy for Joseph to be mad at God for what had happened in his life but instead he still trusted God and stayed humble through some pretty tough times.
Next week in youth group we will be talking about the lessons we learn from the second half of the story of Joseph so make sure to read Genesis 42-50, if you are reading through the Bible in one year you will read this over the course of the next week with your daily reading.
I am very excited to have all of us reading through the Bible in one year and it is not too late to start reading through the Bible in one year if you haven't yet!! If you have a twitter account you can follow the youth group at http://twitter.com/pvilleBCyouth and each day the Bible reading will be posted with a link you can follow to read the Bible on your computer.
If any of you have questions or comments please leave them here so we can get some dialog going about the things you have questions about. And remember check back often for updates. This blog will be updated every Thursday and often times more frequently than that!! Thank you all and I'm super excited about the ice skating lock-in tomorrow at the Lexington Ice Center!! Hope to see yall there, its sure to be a lot of fun!!
