Blog Update 03/16/2010

What a great weekend at PBC with the youth! This past Friday night at PBC was the benefit concert for Andy Baker. There was a lot of great singing and over $5,000 was raised! We had some of our youth in attendance at the concert supporting the Baker family. The youth at PBC make it very easy to be proud of the young men and women that they are.

Then this past Saturday we went to WinterJam in Rupp Arena in Lexington. What a great experience and everyone had an awesome time. We heard Revive, FireLight, New Song, Sidewalk Prophets, Tenth Avenue North, Robert Pierre, Newsboys, and Third Day. The music was such a blessing as nearly 22,000 people were gathered in one place worshiping God. Wow, what a great time. If you did not get to come this year make sure you don't miss it next year!     We also got to hear Tony Nolan speak. Many people were challenged by the words that he shared with us. Now my prayer is that the convictions that we received will stay with us. I pray we did not leave it back in the arena, but that we took it home with us. One of the things that the youth group did take home with us is a child to sponsor. Holt International was there and had children throughout the world to sponsor so that we can provide food, education, and a safer environment for the child that we have sponsored. We decided to sponsor a child from Africa, his name is Eriya and he is five years old.

The cost of sponsoring a child is $30 dollars a month and with about 35-40 people coming to youth group every week each member of the youth group only needs to give one dollar a month for us to be able to provide for Eriya and his needs. I am very proud of our youth group for deciding to sponsor a child. This was their idea, not mine. We are now very excited to be able to ministering to someone an ocean away and be able to show them the love of Christ and to show them that we care and they are in our thoughts. We should not only give Eriya our monetary support but we should also keep him in our prayers on a daily basis. Please pray for Eriya and his family that God will bless them. WinterJam was a great time and something we will be going back to next year!

But the weekend didn't end on Saturday. Sunday night we had the youth participate in the PBC service. Ben Coffman led a few songs by playing his guitar to start out the night, and did a great job. Then we had a skit by Paul Megilligan, Brandon McCullum, Casey Whittle, Micah Gammon, Zach McCullum, and Rachael Pingleton. The skit came to a hilarious ending with Rachel violently exploding a bag of M&M's into the first three rows of the sanctuary! Which, by the way, I was told would NOT happen. J Nonetheless it was very funny and also helped to prove the point that through our actions people should know what we love and what is important to us. Are your actions showing that you love God? Your actions show what is important to you, what are your actions showing others?

Then we had Casey Whittle and Victoria Bristow talk about WinterJam, the experiences that they had and Victoria talked about Eriya. Then Paul shared a word about the importance of sponsoring a child and how thankful we should be for what we have and that we should give back what God has given to us. He also made mention of the desire of some of the boys in the youth group to go out into the woods for 3 days and trying to survive only with what they have in their pockets! I'll have to let you know how that one goes!

Then Ben Coffman shared a word with us about love. And loving others and how the early church was called "Christ-like" by the people in their cities because they were so like Christ. How much are you like Christ? Are you reflecting the image of Christ? Other people should know that we are Christians by our love. Ben said that our church should be so full of love that we have to open the back door to make more room for love inside. How much love are you showing others? How Christ like are you?

The night ended with a song that was sung by Hannah Hardesty with Ben Coffman playing the guitar. It was a beautiful song and a great end to an awesome weekend with the PBC youth. All of you did a great job Sunday night in the service, I am so proud of you all. Thank you PBC church members so being so supportive of our youth group. We greatly appreciate it and thank you for all you do.

We now look forward to next weekend when on Sunday night we get to meet DecembeRadio! It should be another great weekend, but of course all the weekends with the PBC youth are great weekends!

God bless

Fun Had at the Ice Skating All Nighter!

PBC Newsletter – Ice Rink Lock In

January 22nd and 23rd the PBC Youth went to the Lexington Ice Center for a lock in. We enjoyed the night, playing games like Basketball, Ice Skating, and Broomball. We had around 40 Youth go on the event, enough to take both vans! It was a night filled with fun and fellowship. Broomball was probably the favorite game of everyone. It's played by going out onto the ice with your tennis shoes on, and playing hockey with yep, you guessed it, brooms. There were more slips and falls as there were goals. But at the end of the night, we all agreed that we had a blast, and planned to go back and do it again in the future. It was such an awesome time to come together and play games with each other, and grow closer as a youth group.

Camp and Fundraising

Camp/ Fundraising:

Over the Summer of 2009, 20 plus youth packed on the hot bus as we headed to Tennessee for Church Camp! It took lots of planning and fundraising to get to this point but we made it! The drive was crammed, and the fights broke out, but the moment we got there, saw the FUGE sign...everyone just came together with high hopes. It was mid-day and we all ran outside onto the playing field and started out a game of kick-ball. Our youth group was on such a high that week! We grew so close, laughed so hard, even cried together, but sadly it had to come to an end as we rounded out camp. As we packed up to leave it was a sad day for all. Nobody wanted to leave, we had grown too close to have it ripped away by the real world. But life goes on, so we had to. The funny thing is when we got home from church, we were forever changed. We weren't just a bunch of kids, we were brothers and sisters in Christ who found our purpose and wanted to set the Church on fire for God. I know that the elders of the church saw our passion when we got back. They could see all we had taken from that week. So as we start to plan for Fuge this year we ask for all of your help in fundraising. We can't do it alone, and every penny helps. So thank you for believing in us and helping us to grow.

Remembering the Super Bowl Party

Super Bowl:

As the Colts and Saints geared up for a heavy battle in Tampa, the youth loaded the bus and headed to the Baker's! We celebrated the Super Bowl Party in the basement watching the game on the BIG screen with subs the size of small cars. There was also a whole table spread of amazing foods and desserts. We had plenty of attendees with loads of team spirit. No matter which team you rooted for everyone loved the commercials and laughing together! We got in late but all had a great time! We can't wait till next year when we pick our teams and cheer them on to the WIN!!! Special thanks to the Baker's for hosting the event, and to all the adults who brought food. We couldn't do it without you!

God Bless,

Blog Update 02/18/2010

Blog Update 02/18/2010

Last night at youth group we had 28 people in youth group. We had a good night.

We all liked both the cakes that were brought to celebrate Paul's birthday!! Thanks Amber and "the trips" for bringing the cakes, they were delicious! J

Yesterday in youth group we talked about how Jesus is ALIVE. This is so amazing and so awesome. Our savior lives!! One of the main ways we know that Jesus lives is because He lives in us. When Jesus comes into our lives, when Jesus comes into our hearts we are changed. We are no longer living by the old nature, but we are made a new person in Christ.

When Christ comes into our lives we should be transformed. We should love the same things God loves. We should be concerned about things God is concerned about. We should be focused on things that God is focused on. We should be focused on the things are important to God. Jesus Christ coming into our hearts should be life changing. We know that Jesus lives because He lives in us. You ask me now I know He lives…He lives within my heart.

Being a Christian is not all about just follow a set of rules or just trying to do the right thing. Being a Christian is about having Jesus in your heart and allowing Him to change your life. If you would like to more, if you want this in your life please feel free to talk to me at any time.

This Saturday we have a game night at PBC from 6:00-10:00. We are going to play some crazy games and have a lot of fun!! I'm looking forward to it!!

On Mark 13th we are going to Winterjam in Lexington. Check out who will be there and more info about the show here: http://www.hearitfirst.com/WinterJam/artists.aspx. It's going to be a lot of fun and its only $10.00 at the door!! Make sure not to miss out on this.

March must be our musical month because we are also going to see DecembeRadio on March 21st in Harrodsburg. You can check some of their songs out here:

Youth Article about the new years lockin allnighter, by Victoria Bristow

Lock-In

We all know 2010 has crept up on us, ready or not. So the question is, how did you spend your New Years Eve? The youth had a blast ringing in the New Year together. We started out at nine pm and went till nine am the next morning! Derek organized games and activities to keep us busy all night. Some included a team treasure hunt. Where teams competed to find objects all around the church. A couple rounds of underground church, if you don't know what that is, it's a hide and seeks type game with NO lights. Then we can't forget the mummy fashion show. A special thanks to all the volunteers who made this happen from providing food to chaperoning. We hope all attendees had a fun time and look forward to the next all nighter!

God Bless,

Victoria Bristow

Youth Article about our new committees, by Victoria Bristow

Committees

Have you been told you would be a great actor? Do you have an interest in playing an instrument? Are you able to look at a room and visualize just how you want it to look? Well, if so you should come join one of the newly starting committees at PBC Youth. The clubs meet on Sundays at five pm and last until six and then there is church right after until seven. But don't worry if you are talented in multiple areas you may be in up to three of the following:

*Band

*Drama

*Newsletter

*Decoration

*Outreach

Each of these clubs has different tasks that need to be accomplished and need dedicated and unique individuals to help them take off. So if you think you might be interested in offering your skills to a committee talk to Derek to get you signed up for one right away.

Youth Article about Camp, By Ben Coffman

Last Year, our youth group went to an awesome summer camp. It's called Centrefuge, or as some of us like to call it, 'Fuge. It's a week filled with fun, games, worship, and most importantly, God. It's a week where our youth group as a whole, and each and every one of us, grow and learn more about God. It's such a refreshing week, and brings us back to Perryville Baptist Church charged up for Christ. Centrefuge is the biggest event on our calendar all year, and it deserves it, because it's just that awesome. It changed the lives of the 23 people that went last year. Even the adult chaperones that go each year are truly blessed. This year we'll be going to camp in Greenville, South Carolina. We hope that this year's camp experience will be truly as awesome as last years. We still have a LOAD of spots open, so see Derek if you wanna jump on board for this life changing trip.

Super Bowl Party

Super Bowl Party Blog

Currently I am at the Super Bowl party we are having for the youth group. We just watched the pick-six the saints had to put them up by 14. Awesome play. Too bad there were only 5 or 6 of us watching. The majority of the youth do not seem to be interested in the game. We have one doing homework, and many of the others are playing games. But it has still been a fun party, with good food, good fellowship, and good friends. But we do have a lot of cleaning up at the Bakers before we can leave.

Earlier tonight we took a poll and there were 5 of us rooting for the Saints and 13 rooting for the Colts. We really haven't heard or seen too many of the commercials because of all the noise and game playing but it has been fun nonetheless.

We did not have as many people at this Super Bowl as expected, but we still know how to have a good time at the PBC youth.

The two minute warning just hit and a few more people are now watching the game, still not even half of us are watching though. Now Ben is attempting to talk in an accent…not sure where it is supposed to be from though..Now it sounds a bit Scottish, now Middle Eastern, I don't think he knows what is going on, none of the rest of us do. Victoria is showing off her backpack but it isn't as cool as mine J.

AND THE SAINTS JUST WON!!! WOOOHOOO!!! What a good party, for the most part. We had a good time and now it is time to clean up and get ready to leave and go home. It is only 9:44 I have just been informed by Victoria, thanks, nothing gets by you. We have a good party and a fun time. Thank you all for coming and for a mostly great party. I look forward to the next one.

PBC Blog 01/28/2010 Update

Update for 01/28/2010

Last night at youth group we had 33 people there for the second week in a row. We talked about the second half of Joseph's life from Genesis 42-50 again learning lessons from the life of Joseph. The three lessons that we learned from Joseph's life are:

1. Do not repay evil with evil – we also see this lesson reflected in the teachings of the New Testament (1 Peter 3:9 and Romans 12:17)

2. God is in control and He is always with us

3. We should forgive those who have wronged us – again a theme we see throughout the New Testament (Matthew 6:12-15 and Luke 17:3-4)

Looking at the life of Joseph has been illuminating and there are many lessons we can learn and apply to our lives from this story. Remember the PBC youth is reading through the One Year Bible and the lessons that are being taught each week will be primarily from the Bible reading for that week. It is not too late to start reading the One Year Bible, a daily reading schedule can be found online at: http://www.oneyearbibleonline.com/readingplan/oneyearbiblereadingplan.pdf

This past weekend was a fun one for PBC youth. We went to a lock-in all nighter at the Lexington Ice Center and spent much of the night ice skating, playing basketball, and also playing broom ball (which was really fun and the favorite part of the night for many of us, for those who did not play you really missed out on a lot of fun). We had a great time at the ice skating rink though and if they do it again next year we will surely be back!

February is going to be another busy month for the PBC youth, which is the way we like it! The February calendar and explanation of the events have already been posted on this blog so there is no need to reiterate it. However, just so you know you can get the calendar of events on the PBC youth blog!!

Finally, we have a confirmed 28 people who are signed up for camp this year in Greenville, South Carolina!! There are still spots available so if anyone else in interested in attending camp please contact me (Derek Trout) as soon as possible so we can make sure you get to go! I am sure that camp will be a great time and we are really looking forward to it already.

Last night was a great night at youth group, however, we did not have any new people attend. This means that ya'll need to start asking more and more of your friends to come to youth group. They won't know what they are missing out on until you tell them!!

May God bless you all!!

-Derek Trout-

01/21/2010 Update

PBC Blog for January 21, 2010

Last night at youth group we had 33 people in attendance. This has become about our average attendance on Wednesday nights at PBC youth. We even had a new person come to the youth group for the first time, which is very exciting! I encourage all of you to try to bring a new friend with you every week.

PBC is reading through the Bible in one year and I encourage all of our youth to read through the one year Bible as well. In our reading from the past week we read the first part of the story of Joseph found in Genesis 37-41. Remember the four lessons we learned from the first part of Joseph's life. These four lessons are:

1. We should not be jealous of what other people have because jealously can lead people to do extreme things. Instead of being jealous we should be content with what we have.

2. Even when bad things happen to us God still loves us and God is still there with us!

3. Run (literally) from temptation if you have to!! Or flee from sexual immorality, Joseph ran away from Potiphar's wife because of the temptation he faced. I Corinthians 6:18 tells us to flee from sexual immorality, which is also a lesson we learn from the life of Joseph.

4. Trust God and stay humble. It could have been very easy for Joseph to be mad at God for what had happened in his life but instead he still trusted God and stayed humble through some pretty tough times.

Next week in youth group we will be talking about the lessons we learn from the second half of the story of Joseph so make sure to read Genesis 42-50, if you are reading through the Bible in one year you will read this over the course of the next week with your daily reading.

I am very excited to have all of us reading through the Bible in one year and it is not too late to start reading through the Bible in one year if you haven't yet!! If you have a twitter account you can follow the youth group at http://twitter.com/pvilleBCyouth and each day the Bible reading will be posted with a link you can follow to read the Bible on your computer.

If any of you have questions or comments please leave them here so we can get some dialog going about the things you have questions about. And remember check back often for updates. This blog will be updated every Thursday and often times more frequently than that!! Thank you all and I'm super excited about the ice skating lock-in tomorrow at the Lexington Ice Center!! Hope to see yall there, its sure to be a lot of fun!!
